Sundiata Post in Abuja: President-elect Bola Tinubu thanked Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday for helping him win the hotly contested presidential election on February 25, 2023.
Tinubu said this at the opening of the Rumuokwuta/Rumuola Road Flyover in Port Harcourt, the state capital of Rivers.
Even though they belonged to opposing parties, Tinubu was in the state at the request of the governor, who had backed a transfer of power to the country’s south during the presidential election.
At the event, which was well-attended by APC leaders, Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was complimented by key party figure Tinubu, who said, “Your Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike, you are very dependable.”
Despite a “gruesome campaign, hard work, and success,” Tinubu said, he could not have overcome formidable opposition like PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) without structural backing from individuals like Wike.
“Nyesom, I’d want to thank you for helping me win. The former governor of Lagos State, who will be inaugurated as president of Nigeria on May 29, 2023, remarked, “I couldn’t have done it without some structural backing.
