Writer claims Liverpool are pursuing a deal for a “amazing” aerial beast before two EPL teams

According to one credible reporter, Liverpool is ahead of two Premier League opponents in the search for an English top-flight defender.

Pete O’Rourke’s transfer column for Football Insider suggests that Liverpool, Newcastle, and Tottenham are on ‘high alert’ to sign Lloyd Kelly on a pre-contract basis in January.

The Bournemouth man’s contract expires next summer, and if they can’t sign a new agreement, they may have to sell him in the winter.

The journalist reported that Liverpool and other clubs are aware of the 24-year-old’s expiring in June 2024, allowing him to negotiate a pre-contract with overseas clubs starting New Year’s Day.

Jürgen Klopp is allegedly interested in signing Kelly, who has recently been linked with Liverpool.

The 24-year-old was remarkable when Bournemouth beat us at the Vitality Stadium six months ago. His then-manager Gary O’Neil called him ‘incredible’ for his five clearances and 100% duel success rate (Sofascore).

The Englishman is a flying machine, ranking among the top 12% of positional peers in Europe’s five big leagues for aerial duels won per game (1.59) last year (FBref).

Liverpool should have signed local left-footed centre-back Levi Colwill in the summer, but they may prioritise Kelly in January due to his contract issue.

Klopp may be urging the club’s recruitment team to prioritise the 24-year-old defender due to ongoing injury issues in the Reds’ defence.
