UNWomen has requested President Bola Tinubu to guarantee 50% female participation in his next nominations for ministers, agency heads, and parastatal executives.
Lifestyle Beatrice Eyong, the UNWomen Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, reportedly made the appeal during the first ReportHer Awards ceremony in Lagos, according to Nigeria.
Women Radio WFM91.7 organized the ReportHer Awards in collaboration with UNWomen and with funding from the Canadian government.
“As President Bola Tinubu gets ready to announce the names of Ministers and heads of agencies and parastatals of the government, we are campaigning for 50% women participation in public posts,” she stated.
We urge the President to do this, she stated.
Known as a worldwide organisation devoted to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, UNWomen, according to Eyong, was founded through the efforts of all stakeholders and civil society organisations.
She said that according to the organisation, 50% of women were unable to engage in development-related problems, which led to greater feminization of poverty, death, and failure to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
In order to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals and eradicate poverty, she remarked, “We are collaborating with the media. If gender equality and women’s empowerment are not reached, we will never be able to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.”
