Hilda Baci’s record-breaking cook-a-thon has inspired Nigerians to try it themselves.

When Baci broke Chef Lata Tondon’s 2019 Guinness World Record (GWR) for India’s longest cook-a-thon (cooking marathon) on May 15, several Nigerians expressed interest in doing the same.

As of June 12, some young Nigerians are trying to shatter records and enter the hall of fame.

Wole Arole, an entertainer, and Chef Dammy, a digital artist, have declared their Guinness World Records efforts while the 27-year-old celebrity chef continues to receive praise.

Ekiti cook-off
Damilola Adeparusi, an Ekiti-based chef, is trying to shatter Baci’s 100-hour cooking record.

Ms. Adeparusi wants her cook-a-thon marathon to last 120 hours, unlike Baci’s 97.

Several Nigerians admired her courage to attempt a Guinness world record, while many, including celebrities, called it controversial and poorly timed.

Due to GWR’s lack of validation of Baci, some social media users have criticised Chef Dami’s subsequent initiatives.

They advise waiting to set a new record until Baci’s feat is recognised.

Chef Dami’s admirers and Ekiti’s First Lady, Olayemi Oyebanji, have lauded her tenacity.

“The beauty of dreams is that they are unique to each individual,” Baci tweeted to Chef Dami.

“Dami, your courage to embark on a cookery challenge proves enthusiasm has no limitations. “Embrace the trip, learn from every experience, and inspire people with your unbreakable spirit.”
