Jay Jay Okocha, a Nigerian great who played for Fenerbahce, explained why he became Turkish and acquired the name Muhammed Yavuz.
Okocha credited a Fenerbahce coach for his Turkish name.
The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder played for Fenerbahce from 1996 to 1998 after signing from Frankfurt for €1 million.
In an interview with Hurriyet, Okocha remarked, “I spent two years in Turkey, and it was incredibly helpful for me. I was adored. Amazing fans.
I immediately accepted Turkish citizenship. I didn’t want to convert, but I acquired this name because Muslims liked Muhammad.”
He continued, “I embraced this name because it’s spiritual and highly significant for Muslims. Facility manager Yavuz He was kind and made us laugh.
I put my lineage as Yavuz. I was Muhammad Yavuz.”
Okocha played for Bolton before joining PSG from Fenerbahce.
