In cooperation with the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Directorate of State Services, the police in Ebonyi staged a show of force on Wednesday (DSS).
Before dispersing to various locations throughout the capital city, the security officers gathered at the police headquarters in Abakaliki, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The practice occurred during a seven-day “sit-at-home” command given by a division of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which began on June 30.
According to SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the police spokesman in Ebonyi, the force demonstration was undertaken to protect citizens’ lives and property.
She said the display of force was a regular practice to ensure security forces were always prepared to fight crime in Ebonyi and across Nigeria.
“It is a typical event to regain public trust in the security forces.
“We have toured the town to reassure the populace that we can defend them. We went to several traffic and flash areas,” she said.
Onovwakpoyeya asked citizens of Ebonyi to disregard the faction of IPOB’s seven-day “sit-at-home” ultimatum and recommended they go on with their regular legal activities.
She continued by saying that the police have started a search to find the criminals responsible for Tuesday’s business disruption in Ebonyi.
In her words, “Residents should go about their legitimate business; police operatives are chasing the hoodlums who have been creating havoc in various areas of the state.
On Tuesday, sporadic gunshots filled the air in certain areas of Abakaliki as thugs worked to enforce the IPOB faction in Ebonyi’s “sit-at-home” command.
