The governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has faced a new challenge since winning the elections on March 18.
Sa’idu Umar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the March 18 gubernatorial election, has lined up thirty-one (31) witnesses to challenge the election results of Governor Ahmad Aliyu of the APC and his running mate, Idris Gobir.
PDP contests the APC’s win in Sokoto
On Thursday, June 22, according to PM News, Umar said this in the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Sokoto.
During the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto’s acting head of ICT Sabon Birni, Model Primary School’s headteacher Ibrahim Abdullahi, Abubakar Usman, and PDP poll workers were among the witnesses.
Judge Haruna Mshelia, the tribunal’s chairman, asked individuals to respect the public interest and the rule of law at the reopened session on Thursday.
Mshelia commented in response to Sunday Ameh, lead counsel for the PDP, who asked the tribunal to take judicial notice of an alleged danger to the lives of some of the witnesses the petitioners had summoned.
