FrieslandCampina WAMCO, a Dutch dairy firm, has pulled a ‘insensitive’ social media post and apologized to Christians for its recent Good Friday tweet on the Peak brand’s social media profile.

Ms. Ore Famurewa, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, made the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos.

Famurewa also apologized to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), promising that similar incidents would not happen again.

“We recognize the sensitivity of the social media message in light of the season’s sobriety.”

“It was not intended to trivialize the sacredness of the season or to overly exploit Jesus Christ’s unrivaled sacrifice.”

“We would want to notify the general public that the social media post has subsequently been removed,” she added.

Famurewa reaffirmed the company’s ongoing commitment to sustaining Nigerians while upholding the highest regard for all religious laws, precepts, and standards.

“We’d want to use this occasion to wish all Christians the best for the holiday season,” she stated.

According to news sources, CAN criticized a Good Friday advertising produced by Peak milk, a brand of FrieslandCampina WAMCO, on April 10.

The advertising was deemed “insensitive, disrespectful, and absolutely inappropriate” by CAN.

The group said that the advertisement exploited Jesus Christ’s cruxification and was insulting to the Christian religion.

It cautioned businesses to be sensitive of their clients’ religious and cultural sensitivities when advertising their products.
