VP SHETTIMA’s Adaptation to His New Position

May 16, 2024 | Politics | 0 comments

A year ago, Senator Kashim Shettima led the campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC Presidential ticket, marked by political maneuvers. During the campaign, Shettima jokingly compared then VP Osinbajo to an ice cream seller, prompting backlash and a subsequent apology. Recently, an anonymous article resurfaced this comparison, attempting to undermine Shettima’s vice presidential aspirations.

The article referenced Atiku Abubakar’s and Osinbajo’s vice presidencies, highlighting their turbulent ends. However, it failed to acknowledge Shettima’s extensive experience, including eight years as Borno Governor. Despite claims of power dynamics favoring others, Shettima’s office has spearheaded significant projects and initiatives, such as the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises program and the Pulaku initiative to combat banditry.

Contrary to suggestions of marginalization, Shettima holds substantial roles, including Vice-Chair of Tinubu’s Economic Coordination Council. While comparisons to “ice cream men” aim to diminish Shettima’s significance, his longstanding alliance with Tinubu underscores his importance. The relationship between Tinubu and Shettima remains strong, indicating Shettima’s pivotal role in the political landscape.
