Adewale Adeniyi has been appointed as the next Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service by Vice President Kashim Shettima (NCS).
President Bola Tinubu’s choice of Mr. Adeniyi for the job, according to Shettima, is considered a morale booster for the committed officers in the service, she remarked during a short ceremony conducted at the Presidential Villa on Monday, June 26.
The vice president stressed the need to restore professionalism to the Nigerian Customs Service at the occasion, which the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, observed.
“Congratulations on returning the Nigerian Customs Service to professionalism. Every Customs officer may now strive to become the top in their field.
Congrats once again; I wish you success on behalf of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” Shettima added.
At the award ceremony, Mr Adeniyi talked with the media and thanked Tinubu for appointing a serving officer to lead the agency.
He gave the President and the people of Nigeria his word that the Customs Service would be more efficient and innovative.
“The Nigeria Customs Service has transformed during the last eight years. We saw improvement in several areas, such as E-Customs, where we made significant strides. We also made substantial strides in capacity development.
Yet, if we use more innovation to power Customs operations, the Customs Service may still reach its full potential. We will be focusing on issues like these in the next years.
We will take a professional approach, and we will collaborate with a lot of important stakeholders. It will be a difficult undertaking, but we will do it with the help of other partners and stakeholders we have identified.
“We want to develop technologies that benefit all our partners and stakeholders. In order to innovate and create new ground in customs operations, we will use technology.
