On Monday, forward Vinicius Junior arrived in Barcelona to report for duty with the Brazil national team.
Before Saturday’s friendly match against Guinea at Espanyol’s Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, the Real Madrid star has joined the “Seleço.”
The next day, Tuesday, October 20, Senegal will play Brazil in a second friendly in Portugal at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
The 22-year-old had not played for an international team since May, when he was subjected to racial taunts during a La Liga match in Valencia.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) declared the two games were part of an anti-racism campaign after the game.
Goalkeeper Unai Simón of the Spanish national team:
“It is urgent to find a solution to the racism. Since I can see that everyone is truly making an effort to improve things, I don’t want to be overly persistent. Vinicius is a superb athlete. He is a professional athlete. He has shown that. He’s just a really nice guy, both on and off the pitch.”
