According to Vanguard News, information on President Bola Tinubu was given to the Presidential Elections Petitions Court on Thursday in order to confirm his eligibility for the office of President. This information was submitted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The 36 state BVAS results, which placed Mr. Peter Obi in the lead, were also made public by INEC.
The election arbiter handed INEC Chairman Yakubu Mahmoud Form EC9, which included the President’s biodata, in answer to the court’s summons.
The People’s Democratic Party and Atiku Abubakar, who is the PDP’s candidate for President in the election on February 25th, are questioning the INEC’s decision to endorse Tinubu’s candidature. The APC’s nominee for President was announced to be Tinubu.
The petitioners had earlier told the court on Tuesday that Mahmoud had been asked to appear today to give the necessary documentation supporting the claim that Tinubu was not legitimately elected.
These records were required to back up the petitioners’ claim that Tinubu was chosen improperly.
As the hearing on the subject resumed, Chris Uche (SAN), the counsel for LP and Atiku, told the court that the INEC director had sent some of the papers listed in the subpoena via a deputy director of the commission, M.O.Tairu. Nigeria’s Senior Advocate is Chris Uche.
