To create turmoil, certain lawmakers are privately advocating for a Muslim speaker and president of the Senate: Shettima

According to Vice President Kashim Shettima, groups and individuals are lobbying for a Muslim speaker of the House of Representatives and president of the Senate in order to mobilise their respective communities and bring about “chaos” in the nation.

Mr. Shettima provided this information in a statement on Monday that was signed by Olusola Abiola, director of information for the Office of the Vice President, outlining his opinion on electing a southern Christian as president of Nigeria’s Senate.

“The Vice President learned that some groups and people were secretly pushing for Muslim representation in the National Assembly to justify their complaints against the Nigerian government and demonstrate to their communities that they have been marginalised and must rise to cause mayhem.

He continued that the same parliamentarians who opposed a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket are now openly advocating for political arrangements that would result in Muslims holding all four or five of the highest offices in the nation.

Prior to the February 25th presidential election, Mr. Shettima did not oppose the same-faith ticket that included him and President Bola Tinubu, but he has been outspoken in his opposition to the election of Muslims as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The VP claimed that having Muslims in all four leadership posts will “confirm” and “credibly” support claims that the All Progressives Congress is pursuing an Islamization agenda.
