Gunmen have launched an assault on the Ajokpachi Odo community situated in the Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The attack occurred on Tuesday, marking yet another instance of violence in the region, coming just a month after the neighboring Agojeju Odo community was similarly targeted, resulting in the tragic loss of 27 lives.

According to local reports, the assailants ambushed a group of youths who were conducting surveillance in the area, resulting in the death of three individuals.

The gunmen proceeded to infiltrate the town, unleashing a barrage of gunfire to intimidate residents while looting motorbikes, food supplies, and other valuable items.

Sources indicate that the attackers were herders fleeing from the escalating violence in the border community of Agatu, located in Benue State.

The Honorable Marknoble Peter Edibo, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Omala Local Government Area, verified the incident and expressed deep concern over the recurring attacks perpetrated by alleged herdsmen and Agatu militia from Benue and Nasarawa states.

“The severity of the crisis transcends the capacity of the local council alone to address. Despite ongoing efforts by the state government to devise lasting solutions to the conflict, the suffering of our people persists,” he lamented.
