The Saving Blood

Mar 10, 2024 | Sunday Devotional

Hebrews 9:12-14 “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God “.

When evangelist D. L. Moody preached on salvation, which was often, he focused on the power of the blood of Jesus to save. In one sermon he said, ” Look at that Roman soldier as he pushed his spear into the very heart of the God-man. What a hellish deed! But what was the next thing that took place? Blood covered the spear. Oh! Thank God, blood cleanses every sin.”

The blood of Jesus Christ is our only hope for salvation and the payment for all of our sins. No one can stand before a holy God unless he is holy – and we are far from holy. None of our efforts can even come close to achieving the perfection God demands. Apart from the grace of God that sent Jesus to cross, we have absolutely no hope. Yet God has given us that grace, and we can rest in the salvation that has been purchased and given to us.

All of us were enslaved to sin with no hope of ever gaining freedom. In mercy and compassion, Jesus gave His life for us, purchasing our salvation by shedding His blood on the cross. We are now free from sin, but that freedom does not mean that we do whatever we want. Instead we are to live how Jesus wants us to live.

In Romans 1:1, Paul called himself “a servant of Jesus Christ”. The word he used is the word for a bond slave – someone who has voluntarily committed his life to an owner. God Is our owner not only because He created us, but because of the price He paid for our redemption.

God says, “Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more”(Hebrews 10:17). Often Satan uses the sins of the past to keep us in bondage. But while there may be consequences because of the past, the sins are gone – taken away by the blood of Jesus. You can stand in the presence of God as His confident child because of this great gift of His grace. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The Price Jesus Paid For Our Freedom Motivates Us To A Life Of Service For Him. Give Thanks To God For The Great Salvation He Has Freely Given You Through The Blood Of Jesus Christ.
