Dele Momodu, a prominent journalist, recently brought attention to the ongoing clash between Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State and Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Momodu, speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, attributed the root cause of their political friction to their competing interests in controlling Rivers State’s finances. As a vocal member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Momodu highlighted the significance of Rivers State in Nigerian politics, stressing how control over its treasury translates to substantial political sway and access to resources.

The feud between Wike and Fubara has had widespread implications, impacting governance across various sectors in the state. The struggle for power has affected the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, and state commissioners aligned with either faction.

President Bola Tinubu intervened in an effort to reconcile the conflicting parties, successfully brokering a peace agreement. However, despite these efforts, tensions persist, with both factions and their supporters engaged in a simmering standoff.
