The Impact of NYSC in Nigeria, by Monarch

His Royal Highness Oba Adefemi Adedoyin-Adegbite, a famous monarch in Ondo, praised the NYSC founders for creating a Program that has united the nation.

When he visited the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Ikare-Akoko to congratulate the powerful young organisation on its 50th anniversary, Oba Adegbite-Adedoyin, the Owa-Ale Adimula of Ikareland, said this.

“Nigerians would be forever grateful to the founding fathers of the National Youth Service Corps such as General Yakubu Gowon (retd), Professor Adedeji, Colonel Ahmadu Ali, PhD for their foresight at promoting the oneness and uniqueness of the country through mobilisation and subsequent deployment of graduate youths under 30 years to rebuild the nation after the civil war that destroyed the fabrics of our existence as a nation”.

The royal father advised NYSC opponents to go closer to the programme and see how it has unified the nation.

“It amuses me when certain ill-informed members of the society are advocating for the cancellation of the Scheme, portraying the programme as just wasting the Government’s resources and the participants’ precious time, yet NYSC has impacted and continues impacting Nigerians’ lives positively. A scheme that has weathered 50 years of ups and downs should be credited for exposing our younger generation to improved leadership and governance through articulate programmes.

Why Okowa Is Road Master

Instead of calling for the Scheme’s abolition, the public and key stakeholders should urge the Federal Government to improve camp facilities and infrastructure, provide more financing for the Scheme’s ambitious programmes, and improve corps members’ welfare. This country would be different without NYSC, but with it, the future is brighter”.

The first-class traditional ruler advocated for expanding the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to attract service corps members.

Nigeria can improve through corps member capacity building. SAED can turn the nation into a producer. “NYSC is truly a torchbearer,” he remarked.

After the service year, participants from other geopolitical zones live peacefully with indigenes and do well. I appreciate working with some of them. NYSC brought them here, and the plan deserves praise for uniting the nation’s races.

The ancient town’s keeper of culture and tradition congratulated the Program on its Golden Jubilee and prayed that its management would not waste their efforts mentoring graduate kids into national assets.

The UK-trained legal luminary urged corps members to view their deployment to Ondo State as a call to service and a chance to help develop the nation.
