With the foundation of the Ikeja Local Government in 1927, the British colonial authority established the enclave as a residential neighbourhood for senior colonial and Nigerian officials. Nowadays, it is both residential and commercial.

With prominent hotel brands opening regularly in mainland Lagos’Lagos’ government-reserved region, Nigeria may become a tourist and hospitality hub.

Business Hallmark found that leading hotel brands from across the globe battle every day for presence in the desirable neighbourhood.

According to checks, the neighbourhood has had multiple top hotel brands in five years.

BH discovered that these hotels and more are nearing completion.

The buildings will transform the city, it was learned.

BH learned that proximity to elite security institutions and the domestic and international wings of Murtala International Airport, Ikeja, drove the desire for presence on the upscale Ikeja GRA.

Lawyer Tunde Ojo, an investment lawyer, told our reporter that various considerations drove hotels to establish business in Ikeja GRA.

Big hotel brands are moving to Ikeja GRA because it it’s safe.

The Lagos State Police Headquarters and Police College on Oba Akinjobi Drive surround Ikeja GRA.

The reserve borders the Ikeja Military Cantonment in Maryland and the Sam Ethan Air Force Base near Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

“The general belief among real estate investors is that the presence of these top security institutions in the region has made it comparatively more protected than a majority of Lagos,” Ojo said.

Investors like Ikeja GRA because it it’s a gateway to various sections of Lagos and is safe.

Several rich Nigerians favour Ikeja GRA for its convenient commute to and from work.

From Ikeja GRA, leave via PWD to reach Lagos Island or Agege on the mainland via the Lagos-Abeokuta Road.

“Bursting out at Maryland and linking it to Ikorodu Road, Onipanu, Yaba, Ebute Metta, Oyingbo, and Ebute Ero on Lagos Island will also bring you to the island.

Finally, Ikeja GRA is near Murtala Mohammed International Airport. If there is no traffic, you may depart Ikeja GRA 45 minutes to an hour before your flight at Lagos airport, five miles away.

This may be why hotels are focusing on the area. My customer departs Ikoyi on the eve of every international trip to stay at Sheraton or Radisson Blu Hotels to ensure the earliest possible delays.

Checks showed that hotel companies desiring a part of the windfall to develop hotels in Ikeja GRA are also driven by strong demand from clients who need to be near the airport, including airline personnel and temporary visitors.
