The governor’s wife of Kogi urges environmentally responsible behaviour

LOKOJA (Sundiata Post) – Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, the wife of the Governor of Kogi State, urged parents across the state to instill sustainable environmental practices and raise awareness about climate change among their children.

In a message commemorating the 2024 International Day of Families in the state, the governor’s wife emphasized the pivotal role of the family in shaping habits and behaviors. She highlighted the potential of the family institution to spearhead efforts against pollution and indiscriminate waste disposal and to promote activities such as tree planting and waste recycling.

Hajia Sefinat expressed concern over the significant devastation caused by climate change, including flooding and drought, which have adversely affected households, leading to displacement, hunger, and disease. She advocated for measures aimed at educating children and encouraging lifestyle changes to mitigate the impacts of climate change on families.

While acknowledging ongoing government initiatives to support vulnerable groups and citizens, particularly through the Office of the First Lady, Hajia Sefinat stressed the importance of parents remaining steadfast in their responsibility to raise morally upright children.

The International Day of Families serves as a platform to raise awareness about issues affecting families and to enhance understanding of the social, economic, and demographic factors influencing family dynamics. The theme for the 2024 International Day of Families is ‘Families and Climate Change.
