At his birthplace of Umuokehi Okpuala, Umuahia, in Abia State, Professor Fred Onyeoziri, a prominent political scientist, writer, political analyst, and former lecturer at the University of Ibadan, will be laid to rest on June 10, 2023.
In St. Peter’s Methodist Church, Nigeria, a funeral ceremony will be held just before his burial.
On May 10, at RCCG Desire of Nations, Tract 14 I.T Igbani Jabi in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, a service of songs would be held.
Onyeoziri, who passed away recently at the National Hospital Abuja at the age of 82 following a brief illness, taught political science for many years at the University of Ibadan. He helped many students, many of whom are now leaders in a variety of fields of endeavour, by tutoring and mentoring them.
Onyeoziri was a well-known author, a member of the editorial board, and a gentleman with a composed demeanour, a strong sense of responsibility, and a love for his country. He was a columnist for the Guardian Newspapers for many years.
At The Post Express Newspapers, he held the positions of CEO and Chairman of the Editorial Board.
He served as a Special Advisor to a number of Peoples Democratic Party National Chairmen and Ministries of Education (PDP).
After the news of his passing spread, many paid tribute to his sense of patriotism and duty, including his peers and mentees in academia, the media, and politics. We will sincerely miss him.
