The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku, have filed a lawsuit accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of rigging the February 25 presidential election. The APC, through its chief attorney, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, declined to respond to the claim.
ACCORDING TO THE APC, the PDP and Labour Party petitions were not worth replying to.
As Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, a crucial witness for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was cross-examined, it was decided not to launch the defence.
Under stern questioning, the senator conceded that Tinubu’s election could not be nullified, notwithstanding his forfeiture of $460,000 to the United States according to a court order.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a clean bill of health regarding the criminal indictment since he has never been charged or found guilty by an American court, according to the Senate Majority Leader.
Fagbemi announced the conclusion of the APC’s case after analysing the witness’ testimony, saying, “Having taken a sober reflection of the entire case, we have enough evidence and we are not calling any witnesses; we do not intend to whip dead horses, we announce the closure of the case of the 3rd respondent.”
Bamidele had already said that President Tinubu didn’t need to win the election on February 25 with 25% of the votes cast in the FCT.
The witness agreed with the petitioner’s attorney that President Tinubu received 19.4% of the vote in the FCT overall but said it made no difference.
President Tinubu was the only witness for the defendants in the case. Once their case was closed, the court ordered the respondents 10 days to submit their written closing arguments, giving the petitioner 7 days to react and 5 days to address any legal problems.
Justice Haruna Tsammani, the presiding judge, said that all parties would be notified of the day the final written addresses would be adopted.
