Tension as union election turns bloody in top south-east state

Ebonyi’s Ivo In the Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, 25 vehicles were burned, cars, houses, and shops vandalised, and several people were injured during the Ano Stone Dealers Association election.

Clinton Chukwu, an eyewitness, said hoodlums accosted a convoy led by outgoing chairman Ekeh Augustine on their way to Isiaka, the election site, on Saturday, November 4, Leadership reported.

Chukwu says multiple gunshot victims are being treated in an unidentified hospital.

“Unfortunately, the hoodlums from this community shot sporadically, causing panic in the community and forcing police and other security agencies to flee.

“The same hoodlums stabbed electoral committee Chairman Charles Ajah with bottles and hospitalised him. They pummelled others into comas and wrecked Mr. Cornelius Chukwu’s GLK Jeep.

Fear of retaliation is causing community strife.

Many locals have moved to nearby villages for fear of being attacked after the tragedy.

Richard Egu, the Ivo Council Chairman’s Press Secretary, stated two leaders have been ordered to restore and repair all damaged property, including burned motorcycles and vandalised vehicles.

Egu stated that both leaders must cover victims’ hospital fees.

OPC, Amotekun, others fight herders in Oyo

The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Amotekun, Operation Burst, Soludero, and herders clashed in Iwerele, Iwajowa LGA, Oyo State, leaving several thought dead.

A community Chief reported ranchers raided a farm and grazed with their livestock.

The source said the farm owner died during the argument on Monday, October 16.

Farmers and herdsmen fight in Ebonyi, injuring 4

The farmer was admitted to the Emergency Ward of Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) with machete wounds all over his body. At the same time, the three herders with head injuries are being treated in Awgu, Enugu state.
