On Monday, Rear Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla was named the next Chief of Naval Staff.
Once President Bola Tinubu dismissed the Service Chiefs on Monday, Ogalla was appointed.
Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo, who President Muhammadu Buhari chose in January 2021, is replaced by him.

1. Ogalla was born in Enugu Ezike, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area, in Enugu State, on December 20, 1968.
2. He received the Sword of Honor medal for being the top navy cadet in his course, graduated with a BSc in mathematics, and is a member of the 39 RC NDA.
3. Ogalla was promoted to R Adm wef on September 16, 21, after being commissioned as an S Lt on September 16, 1992.
