Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president of Nigeria, has asked the government to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind or treated unfairly during the evacuation from Sudan.
Atiku said this while celebrating the homecoming of the first batch of stranded Nigerians in Sudan to Abuja on Wednesday night.
Atiku said that no Nigerian should be left behind or subjected to discrimination because of their race or religion when they arrived.
“I’m pleased with reports of the safe return of the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from Sudan,” said the 2023 PDP presidential contender.
“While welcome home the evacuees, I would like to commend again the management of Air Peace Airways, the Nigerian military, and other MDAs engaged in this rescue of our compatriots trapped in Sudan.
“We also thank the Egyptian authorities for allowing Nigerians safe passage following the initial hurdle.
Additionally, I will direct the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other evacuation organisations to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind or subjected to racial or religious discrimination.
“Every responsible nation must help its citizens in circumstances like the Sudan crisis with Nigerians stranded.”
On Wednesday, the Nigerian Air Force and Air Peace evacuated 376 returnees from Aswan, Egypt, using the NAF C-130H.
Around 11:35 p.m., they landed in the Federal Capital Territory instead of at the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport at 11:23.
According to Sadiya Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Air Peace transported 282 evacuees and NAF 96.
