After a victory over his opponent Samura Kamara in the presidential election held on Saturday, Julius Maada Bio, the president of Sierra Leone, has been re-elected.

In contrast to Kamara, who received 41% of the vote, Bio received 56% of the vote.

According to the BBC, Kamara reportedly referred to the conclusion as “daylight robbery” when the first round of results were announced on Monday.

The election on Saturday took place in tense circumstances, although President Bio had urged citizens to “preserve the peace.”

The 59-year-old will shortly begin serving his second five-year term after being sworn in. He and Dr. Kamara, 72, were in a bitter contest that mirrored the 2018 election, which required a second round.

In response, Bio praised Sierra Leoneans for their resounding support in voting for him.

As shown by both his and the SLPP’s success in the recently finished Multi-Tier Elections, he stated on Twitter: “My Fellow Sierra Leoneans, I am tremendously humbled and profoundly appreciative for your overwhelming vote of confidence.

This triumph belongs to Sierra Leone because it demonstrates that despite differences in languages, tribes, and political ideologies, we are all united in our desire to see The Land That We Love, #SierraLeone, flourish.

“In this election, there are no victors or losers. Nonetheless, despite having varied political allegiances, Sierra Leoneans have a common goal for developing the economy, advancing society, and loving our country.

“I, therefore, applaud each candidate who ran for office and respectfully offer my hand of friendship to the leadership of all political parties and their people to join us in our efforts for national progress.

Together, we can make our country a shining example of development and prosperity. Sierra Leone, I appreciate your belief in me and your commitment—every Sierra Leonean share in our victory. Let’s keep striving in peace and harmony for a better future for all of us. 5
