Sidi Ali, 86, the second Republican lawmaker, passes away

Sidi Ali, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, passed away at the age of 86. Serving two terms as a member of the Federal House of Representatives during the Second Republic, he represented the Dambatta Constituency under the banner of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). His demise occurred on Thursday.

The late politician’s funeral prayer is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. at the Kundila Juma’at Mosque.

Educated in the United States, Sidi Ali was a veteran information officer and the author of “Power of Powers,” a biography chronicling the life of Muhammadu Ribadu, the First Republic minister of Defence.

In a tribute during his 2018 birthday message, former President Muhammadu Buhari lauded Sidi Ali for his dedication to providing accurate and balanced information on government activities, particularly during and after the Civil War.

Throughout his career, the elder statesman served diligently in various capacities, including roles at the Nigerian International Press Centre, Ministry of Information, and National Broadcasting Commission. His contributions to the Nigerian political landscape and information sector leave a lasting legacy.
