After the 2023 general elections, former Kaduna Central MP Shehu Sani made a new allegation.
Senator Sani tweeted on Wednesday evening that police freed all 781 election criminals countrywide.
According to Naija News, Sani stated this in response to the scandal surrounding Anambra State adolescent Mmesoma Ejikeme, who was accused by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of altering her 2023 UTME marks from 249 to 362.
Senator Sani advised Nigerians to focus on developments following the 2023 election.
The former legislator tweeted, “While you get outraged about the Anambra Jamb Girl situation, Just to remind you that all these persons have since been freed and are currently at home,” along with a screenshot of a news item on the electoral offenders’ release.
NBA Gave 427 Attorneys To Freely Prosecute 215 Electoral Offenders — INEC
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has volunteered 427 attorneys to prosecute 215 electoral offenders from the 2023 general elections, according to INEC.
The Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Mahmood Yakubu, revealed this on Tuesday, June 4, at a meeting with state Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to assess the general elections, Naija News reported.
The INEC chairman said the Nigerian police presented 215 persons for different voting breaches, and the NBA assisted INEC in prosecuting them by providing 427 attorneys for free.
Yakubu said the election commission and NBA were pursuing electoral criminals for the 2023 general election.
He said INEC got the police report on suspended Adamawa REC Yunusa Ari and will shortly take action against him.
This outlet claimed that the INEC chairman was meeting with all Resident Electoral Commissioners at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja to assess its 2023 general election operations.
The electoral commission will also review November’s off-season gubernatorial elections in Kogi and Imo.
Yakubu’s meeting with the RECs is the first to be covered by Naija News since the 2023 General Elections.
In July and August, INEC will examine its electoral actions. Festus Okoye, INEC’s spokesperson, said the evaluation will begin with the RECs meeting and culminate with the commission’s retreat.
