Seplat Energy will provide free eye treatment and other healthcare to 90 villages in Edo and Delta states.
During this year’s “Eye Can See” event, which culminated at the Oba of Benin palace in Benin City, the company’s new head of external relations and sustainability, Ms. Chioma Afe, said that 13 centres were assigned to capture the communities within its working regions.
She claimed the initiative included cataract surgery, free eyeglasses, and health lectures to help patients manage diabetes.
Afe stated Seplat Energy, a good corporate citizen, had treated over 96,000 individuals in the locations of its operations under the 2012 programme.
Afe further revealed that the business has performed 4,218 eye operations and distributed 45,000 free spectacles under the all-ages programme.
Mr. Effiong Okon, Seplat’s new energy director, said Edo is one of the company’s important states and that the health programme would continue as long as the firm does.
“Seplat is purpose-driven and serves. “We have deliberate framework to guarantee the initiative continues for a very long period,” he remarked.
The managing director of NNPC Exploration and Production, Ms. Emily Ajakaye, promised to work with Seplat on the healthcare initiative.
The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare ll, represented by Chief Stanley Obamwonyi, praised Seplat Energy for relieving his people. He commended the firm and asked them to continue producing programmes.
“I am really delighted for what the firm has done for us,” said cataract surgery recipient Maria Aigbedo. I couldn’t afford eye surgery without Seplat. I thank everyone.”
