Abuja (Sundiata Post) — Mr Aloy Ejimakor, the lawyer for outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed concern over his client’s health.

On Monday, Ejimakor expressed alarm over Kanu’s ongoing confinement after a judge ordered his release.

He mentioned Kanu’s nose bleeding, implying that an inmate with TB was relocated to his cell block by the Directorate of State Services on Sunday (DSS).

The lawyer also asked President Muhammadu Buhari to order his client’s release in accordance with a court judgment.

“Today, my associate, Barr Mandela, met with Onyendu #MNK at the DSS.” He claims that MNK told me to make public that he had an incident of copious nosebleed yesterday and that the DSS has shifted an inmate diagnosed with TB to his cell block. This is concerning,” he tweeted.

“Except for failed states, no government detains a man after his incarceration is municipally and globally ruled unconstitutional, with compensation and apologies handed to him.” @MBuhari should do the responsible thing and terminate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s awful captivity.”

Treason charges

Mr Kanu has frequently advocated for the secession of a substantial portion of southern Nigeria to create the Republic of Biafra.

In October 2015, he was detained by Nigerian authorities on an 11-count accusation that included “terrorism, treasonable crime, operating an unlawful society, publishing of defamatory content, illegal possession of guns, and improper importation of commodities, among other things.”

He was granted bail in April 2017 for medical grounds.

Mr Kanu, on the other hand, fled the nation in September 2017 when the military invaded his residence in Afara-Ukwu, in Umuahia, Abia State.

He was afterwards seen in Israel and later continued to incite his supporters in Nigeria to use violence to achieve secession.

Mr Kanu has denied any misconduct.
