Sam George, MP for Ningo Prampram, was filmed joking with soldiers about the Ayawaso West Wuoguon by-election assault.
The legislator is seen and heard questioning the presence of military escorts at an election ground during the Assin North by-election on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, and warning them not to repeat the 2019 incident.
“Only the President, Vice President, and recently the Attorney General use the military. Who else will use the military? Defence Minister? Defense Ministry, right?
“Chief, we don’t want chaos. We reject Ayawaso West Wuoguon. “You see, today I’m not wearing any tactic; I’m wearing civilian,” he said, urging the military not to cause chaos.
The outspoken NDC MP was assaulted by security personnel believed to be members of the Ghana Police Service SWAT team at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in January 2019 during a by-election to replace Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremateng Agyarko, who died on November 21, 2018.
In a video, Mr Sam George shouted at security guards in a parked vehicle that they wanted to kill a man in his house.
During the exchange, a security officer slapped the MP from a parked pick-up truck.
Another uniformed security guard punched him.
The viral video showed police and NDC supporters fighting after the MP was attacked.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) withdrew from the by-election after a shooting.
After consulting its parliamentary candidate, the party withdrew its polling agents and observers.
At a La Bawaleshie polling centre, National Security Operatives allegedly shot six NDC supporters.
