The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Frontier has advised the Rivers State Assembly members, whose seats were recently declared vacant, to participate in fresh elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group expressed disappointment over the lawmakers’ defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), labeling it as a betrayal of the trust and mandate bestowed upon them.

The national president of the APC Youth Frontier, Comrade Ajani Martins, underscored that the defectors were akin to political opportunists with no place in the APC fold. He criticized their defection as not only morally objectionable but also indicative of a lack of principles and integrity.

Martins emphasized the ruling party’s disapproval of such acts of illegality and disloyalty, affirming that constituents deserved better representation.

He stated, “We strongly condemn the treacherous defection of the 25 Parliamentarians. This political flip-flopping represents a betrayal of their party’s trust and the electorate. We disassociate ourselves from their self-serving actions, which forsake the foundational principles and values of our party.”

Asserting the party’s commitment to accountability, Martins declared, “We will take necessary measures to hold these individuals accountable for breaching the public’s trust.”

Addressing loyal members and supporters, Martins urged steadfastness and dedication to the APC’s cause, emphasizing the party’s enduring commitment to its principles.

He concluded, “We value loyalty, commitment, and adherence to our party’s ethos. Regrettably, those who abandoned their previous party affiliations may not uphold these qualities. Therefore, we advise the lawmakers to return to their roots and vie for office through legitimate means. As it stands, their seats in the House have been forfeited. Our party does not condone illegalities.”
