The selection of Prof. Abdullahi Muhammad Sabo as the founding vice chancellor of the new university has been authorised by the board of trustees of the Franco-British International University, Kaduna.

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Prof. Sabo was officially appointed by Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the founder and chairman of the governing council of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).

“I desire to deliver to you the letter of appointment as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the new University,” Prof. Gwarzo remarked on behalf of the Board of Trustees of Franco-British International University, Kaduna and Maryam Abacha American University conglomerate.

Prof. Gwarzo expressed hope that Prof. Sabo will deliver due to his worldwide expertise and intellectual prowess while wishing the incoming Vice Chancellor a fruitful term.

He tasked the incoming VC with ensuring that sexual harassment would not be tolerated at the new university.

Prof. Gwarzo characterised Prof. Sabo’s nomination as one that was highly merited in light of his depth of academic expertise.

He prayed to the All-Powerful God for guidance and wisdom to enable the new VC to lead the new institution’s leadership to higher heights.

Prof. Sabo responded by thanking the founder of the four universities for appointing him and promising to live up to the trust placed in him.

Prof. Sabo formerly served as Maryam Abacha American University of Niger-Postgraduate Maradi’s School Dean.

It may be recalled that the Federal Executive Council authorised the establishment of two new universities on Monday, May 15, 2023, at its meeting. These universities, owned privately by Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, are the Franco-British International University in Kaduna and the Canadian University of Nigeria in Abuja.

The National Universities Commission (NUC), an arm of the federal government, granted two universities operating licences on Friday, June 9, 2023.
