Uche Ekwunife, the senator from Anambra Central Senatorial District, may join the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election.
According to Legit’s regional correspondent in Anambra, Mokwugwo Solomon, Ekwunife, a PDP member, has run for governor three times.
She also represented Dunukofia, Njikoka, and Anaocha in the House of Representatives three times and the Anambra Central Senatorial District twice.
On Saturday, April 22, a source close to the senator informed Awka that she is considering joining the governing party to get the 2025 gubernatorial ticket ahead of Anambra governor.
“Yesterday, madam accompanied Anambra APC leaders in a courtesy visit to Hope Uzodimma in Imo State.”
Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, Amb. Elijah Onyeagba, Paul Chukwuma, and Hon. Ralph Okeke accompanied her. Rev. Fr. Alia, Benue state governor-elect, joined them in Imo.
Her campmates heard her viewpoint. “Several of us recommended Iyom join the Labour Party, but she thinks joining the APC now is smarter.”
Senator Ekwunife denied supporting Labour Party candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
Ekwunife stated that Obi could not win the 2023 presidential election, but she never backed him.
On Sunday, February 5, the former legislator claimed that while Peter Obi is a force to be reckoned with in the next elections, he lacks the vote spread needed to win.
