The Police Service Commission (PSC) has formally requested six months of wage arrears for 2021/2022 police recruits from the Federal Accountant-General.

After approving recruit payments, the PSC wrote to the AGF.

On Sunday, commission spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani said that non-enrolment in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System delayed payments (IPPIS).

Ani said the panel had to act quickly after Nigerians protested on behalf of the recruits.

He said the commission sought to guarantee that the officers, who had not received wages six months after graduating and being sent to police commands and formations for actual police work, were not victims of the commission-Nigeria Police Force dispute.

The letter sought a “prompt and positive reaction in activating and emplacing the essential processes and procedures at guaranteeing that the police personnel are instantly captured” on the relevant payment systems and paid.

Ani claimed the commission’s chairman, Solomon Arase, was uneasy with allegations that the workers had resorted to charity begging and other dirty behaviours to survive.

He noted that Arase, a former Inspector-General of Police, swiftly resolved all pending concerns to ensure national security.
