Mr. Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate, believes that good leadership can overcome Nigeria’s various issues. He spoke Wednesday at Finotel Hotel in Awka, Anambra State, at the public presentation of “Many Voices, One Viewpoint,” a compendium on him.
Obi, who restated his conviction that Nigeria needs a “deliberate, planned and aggressive transformation from consumption to production,” was touched when he saw the news about how the United Arab Emirates expects to harvest their first batch of wheat grown in a desert using contemporary technologies.
He called the recent UN World Food Programme (WEP) warning that Nigeria, notably Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, would be significantly hit by famine this year “disheartening,”, especially given Nigeria’s many opportunities that our leaders have failed to use.
Obi used figures to show that Borno (70.9 sq km), Yobe (45.5 sq km), and Adamawa (36.5 sq km) had 152.9 square kilometres of land, significantly more than Israel’s 22.1 sq km, yet Israel sustains itself and exports its excess grain. Obi promised that Nigeria would succeed under his leadership.
Obi predicted he would become Nigeria’s president. He praised the “Obidient” Family for believing in him. He asked them to accept his occasional apologies to the elders as consistent with the African concept of respect for elders or dads, even when they are incorrect.
I’m devoted to the New Nigeria path. “I will fight for a better Nigeria no matter how long it takes,” Obi stated.
Obi was called “Man of Destiny” by the Royal Father, HRM Igwe Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi).
He said Obi’s commitment to truth and justice set him apart from other leaders, no matter how long it takes. He praised Obi for always being honest and transparent.
Senator Victor Umeh, the Senator-elect for Anambra Central Senatorial District, praised Obi as one of the greatest Nigerians and a beneficial influence on many lives during the ceremony. He called him development-oriented and claimed no genuine political dialogue exists in the country without Obi. He noted that Obi’s humility typically deters mischief.
In his introductory remarks, the book’s Lead Editor, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, praised Nigerians for their faith in Obi. She added that presenting the book publicly supported Obi’s political road to the presidency.
It was well-attended. The gathering attracted Traditional Rulers, politicians, stakeholders, well-wishers, and many “Obidients.”
