The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benin unveiled a 200-member campaign council for the upcoming Governorship Election on September 21, 2024.

According to Tony Anenih (Jnr.), the PDP State Organising Secretary, the campaign council comprises versatile party members meticulously selected to rally support behind the party’s candidate, Dr. Asuerinme Ighodalo.

The campaign structure includes an Advisory Council chaired by State Governor Godwin Obaseki, a Management Committee, and a State Campaign Council consisting of 200 prominent PDP members. Mrs. Betsy Obaseki and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo will lead the women’s wing, while Timothy Osadolor, the Deputy National Youth Leader, will head the youth wing.

Anenih emphasized that the selection process was conducted under the direct supervision of party leaders and spearheaded by Governor Obaseki.

He expressed confidence in the capability of the chosen members to effectively support Dr. Asuerinme Ighodalo, describing him as erudite, intellectually sound, and broad-minded.

The advisory council, comprising seven eminent members, operates under the chairmanship of the Governor. The Management Committee consists of the Director-General and 13 Deputies responsible for various functions such as finance, contact and mobilization, media/publicity, field operations, and security.

Anenih highlighted the importance of the youth and women wings, stating that they would operate independently while maintaining a symbiotic relationship with other directorates.

He concluded by congratulating the selected members and urged them to commence their duties promptly, emphasizing the party’s expectation for them to hit the ground running.
