The Ministry of Health should sanction Maitama General Hospital management for the death of one-chance victim, Greatness Olorunfemi, according to former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Olorunfemi was robbed and thrown from a one-chance vehicle on Abuja’s Maitama-Kubwa motorway.

She died after being rushed to Maitama General Hospital, where staff refused to admit her without a police report.

Saraki stated that the hospital’s leadership violated the law by refusing to admit Olorunfemi, who needed medical attention.

Saraki said the hospital’s primary goal is to save lives and help those in need.

Saraki called the situation an injustice and said the federal government must not tolerate it.

He added that the Federal Ministry of Health and Maitama Hospital Management Board should investigate this case and ensure swift justice for the perpetrators.

I am devastated to learn about the unfortunate death of Greatness Olorunfemi, who was pushed out of a moving car by hoodlums after being robbed of her valuables and rescued by a kind stranger but denied medical attention at Maitama General Hospital in Abuja.

This heartbreaking case highlights the importance of the law we designed, passed, and received presidential assent during the 8th National Assembly. This law protects Nigerian victims of violence. More must be done to enforce the law.

“I also urge the Ministry of Health to sanction Maitama General Hospital leadership for lawbreaking. Their refusal to admit a patient goes against their profession’s ethics.

“All hospitals: Remember the Hippocratic Oath. Your top priority is saving lives. Do not reject those in need. Honour your profession and follow the law.

I urge the Nigerian government to stand tall and send a clear message that such injustices will not be tolerated. The Federal Ministry of Health and Hospital Management Board should investigate this case and ensure swift justice for the perpetrators.

I urge everyone to raise awareness of the law and its provisions. Let all Nigerians know about the law to ensure compliance.

“My sincerest condolences to Greatness Olorunfemi’s family and friends. I pray for you during this difficult time because your loss is immeasurable.”
