One of Nigeria’s top dental clinics, Luxe Dental Clinic, is consciously altering the smiles of young people in Lagos state.

To promote excellent oral health, the clinic visited Ikeja Senior High School on Wednesday and gave over 70 students free dental exams, holistic teeth cleanings, and dental supplies.

Via its non-profit organisation, the Smile Doctor Foundation, the medical outreach focused on “School Dental Outreach.”

According to Luxe Dental Clinic, children who have poor oral hygiene are more likely to develop cavities, gum disease, and foul breath.

Dr Funmi Adeniyi, CEO of Luxe Dental Clinic, emphasised the need to help these kids keep confident smiles since research indicates that youngsters in metropolitan areas have poor dental hygiene habits and knowledge.

“Oral health is really important. The mouth serves as the body’s reflection. According to research, persons with poor dental health drop out of school, experience pain, and have trouble concentrating in class due to their discomfort and anguish from oral health conditions.

Many studies have shown that poor dental health may significantly affect a child’s general health, increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, infections, and other health issues.

Adeniyi, also the CEO of the Smile Doctor Foundation, talked about poor self-esteem while reiterating their goal to decrease the proportion of children with dental health issues.

“There is also the idea that filthy teeth lower self-esteem. You need to communicate with assurance. You believe the kid is timid. It is caused by malocclusion, bad tooth alignment, or mouth odour.

With our extensive free dental care services, we are working to prevent these issues from developing, adds Adeniyi.

The CEO confirmed that the foundation would return to the school before the end of the year to take care of additional kids who were left out, noting that similar activity had occurred twice this year.

Meanwhile, the foundation gave the school a 2000-litre water tank in order to support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 — safe water and sanitation for everyone.

Olugbenga Ogunniran, the school’s vice principal, praised the foundation for its kind deeds and gifts.

He pledged that they would adequately use the donated things to benefit the kids, the school, and society.

The vice president said, “The government cannot accomplish everything,” but he urged other private organisations to model themselves after Smile Doctor Foundation.

Achum Grace, a student in SS2 at the school, one of the recipients, said, “I believe it is really lovely since many people have teeth issues.

If we go out and do it, it will be very expensive. Thus, performing it here for us without charge is incredibly sweet, kind, and considerate of them.

The outreach, the second of the year for the Smile Doctor Foundation, provided the school and the students with free dental exams, scaling and polishing, dental cleaning, and dental supplies.
