Tonye Cole, the APC candidate for governor, filed a petition with the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal, which is based in Abuja, but has reserved judgment.

In the governorship election on March 18, Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faced opposition from Cole.

The parties adopted their final written addresses and presented their arguments in favour of and against the petition before the three-member tribunal, presided over by Justice Cletus Emifonye, adjourned the case for judgment.

In addition to Cole, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the previous governor of Rivers State, was present for the day’s proceedings in court.

He would not, however, discuss the results of the day’s events with journalists.

Cole cited more than 40 witnesses to support his assertion that Fubara lacked the qualifications to run for governor of Rivers State at the time of the election.
