Obi Visits Soyinka Amid Disputations

In the midst of a dispute between Prof. Wole Soyinka and Peter Obi’s fans, referred to as “Obidients,” Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, visited him.

The Obidients movement, which refers to Peter OBI’s supporters, accused playwright Soyinka of making a negative remark about the Liberation Party’s vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Remember how Datti had objected to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s selection of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the president-elect? (INEC). Additionally, he claimed that swearing in the next president will end Nigeria’s democracy.

But, Soyinka claimed in an interview with Arise Television that any jury may convict Datti Baba-Ahmed since his remarks went beyond what is acceptable in a democracy.

“Datti keeps saying no,” he claims, so the Supreme Court’s ruling must support him. It has been referred to be a fascist language, and it is inadmissible. I think it turns off people—even fans- and I am certain of this.

In the middle of these debates, Obi praised Soyinka on Sunday via his Twitter account for his accomplishments on the international scene and his fight for a better Nigeria. He declared that Soyinka’s pursuit of justice would never be disregarded.

He clarified that the purpose of the trip was to dispel unwarranted myths about Wole Soyinka and the “Obidients” movement.

“I treasured this Sunday’s visit,” he said in the article, “which was designed to dispel the unnecessary myths about the relationship between the great icon and the Obidient family.”

Obi, who finished third in the presidential election on February 25, trailing President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is currently contesting the results at the Tribunal, which is scheduled to open on May 8, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Election Tribunal in Abuja has postponed the appeals of Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) until Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
