The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Board has delayed the 2023/2024 season kickoff by two weeks.

After talks between the board and the Club Owners Association, the new league season was authorized on August 4 instead of August 26.

An official announcement from the Interim Management Committee said the commencement was delayed to allow full preparations for a full season (IMC). A similar model was proposed for the subsequent season, but club owners rejected it.

The IMC also stated that the NPFL live app that debuted last week has yet to be tested and used in all chosen stadiums.

AI cameras have been put at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, Kwara State Sports Complex in Ilorin, New Jos Township Stadium on Zaria Road, Pantami Stadium in Gombe, Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, and Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

The NPFL board will draw the next season on Thursday, August 17, 2023, in Lagos. The three Club Owners’ league board members will represent the clubs.

The notification acknowledged a schedule conflict for the four Nigerian CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup clubs. This weekend, these teams begin the preliminary contests.

Reigning champions, Enyimba FC will play Al Ahly Benghazi, Bendel Insurance will play Algerian club ASO Chlef, while Remo Stars will play Ghanaian side Medeama SC.
