According to Nigerian hip-hop singer Zlatan Ibile, the Apple Music list is now comparable to a report card for the nation’s musicians.

He claimed that before performing morning prayers, most Nigerian musicians look up the position of their songs on the charts.

The Zanku singer said this during a guest appearance on the most recent Afrobeats Podcast episode, which Adesope hosted.

He claimed that people [artists] who previously didn’t take their online presence seriously started doing so. People who are only concerned with show money and don’t care about their royalties You obviously get more money from performances; you postpone royalties until you are ready. When asked how much they had on Apple Music, people started calling their DSPs. What does Spotify cost? What is it in Audiomack?

“Thus, at that point, people began to focus on the entire chart issue. Everyone want to be listed on the chart. People in the diaspora listen to that. Everyone wants to be on it, of course. Now, the Apple Music chart resembles a report card. Every musician goes to Apple Music first thing in the morning, the majority of us before we pray, to see what’s going on. We even check the chart the day before to see where a song will be listed the following day.
