Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North Central region have endorsed Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of Benue State, for the position of national chairman of the party.

The endorsement was made by the ‘Platform of North Central PDP Stakeholders Forum’ during a meeting held at Ibeto Grand Hotel, Abuja, on Monday night. Notably, Suswam was absent at the gathering.

Prominent political figures, including former and serving members of the State and National Assembly, former ministers, appointees, party leaders, women, youths, and observers from the zone, attended the meeting. They expressed the need for the party to allow the North Central zone to complete the tenure of the suspended National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

Former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, confirmed the stance of the North Central stakeholders during an appearance on an Arise Television program. He emphasised the zone’s desire to fill the vacant position of the national chairman and highlighted the constitutional provisions guiding the process.

Speaking at the meeting, former Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev stressed the importance of returning the position of National Chairman to Benue State in line with the party’s constitution. He emphasised the need to correct past mistakes and support Suswam’s candidacy.

Similarly, former Minister from Plateau State, Chief Damishi Sango, echoed the sentiment, urging genuine PDP members to rally behind Suswam.

Overall, stakeholders from the six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that constitute the North Central zone unanimously endorsed Suswam, considering it a prudent decision for the party’s future.
