SaharaReporters confirmed that his lawyer and family had tried to persuade the police to prosecute him after his move, but without success.
The attorney and family of whistleblower Nnamdi Emeh, who is in custody, fear the Anambra State Police Command has plotted his murder.
On April 2, 2023, SaharaReporters revealed that Nnamdi was moved from Force Headquarters Abuja to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka, Anambra State.
Despite public outrage, he was transferred from Force Headquarters Abuja to the Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police, where most of its top officers were implicated in the graphic details of the SARS crimes at Awkuzu.
SaharaReporters confirmed that his lawyer and family had tried to persuade the police to prosecute him after his move, but without success.
“After several visits to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, DCP Azara, the police reluctantly filed a charge at the Federal High Court Awka on the 11th day of April but have refused to produce Nnamdi in court for arraignment more than two weeks after,” a family member told SaharaReporters on Wednesday.
When the family visited him over the weekend, he told them that CP Echeng Echeng had twice sent messengers to him at strange hours, asking to meet him privately, but he rejected them.
Nnamdi stated that he cannot meet with anyone at an unusual hour without his counsel.
After this disclosure, Nnamdi’s father, Prof. JK Emeh, and his lawyer, Justus Uche Ijeoma, Esq., visited the CP in his office on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
“But, after waiting in the CP’s office for more than one hour, the CP denied to see them, directing that they should route their concerns through the DCP State CID, who is now on leave.
“They were surprised that the same CP who is reaching out to Nnamdi individually at strange hours is refusing to meet with his father and lawyer.”
A police source told SaharaReporters that Awkuzu SARS officers strongly accused in media publications were being moved to the State CID.
According to the source, Insp. Harrison Akama has been transferred from the renowned SARS to the State Criminal Investigation Department (the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad). “Nnamdi’s life is at risk since they’ll see him every day.”
Nnamdi, a 26-year-old NYSC member and Anambra state police command computer specialist, has been detained since March 3, 2023, according to SaharaReporters.
On March 3, 2023, when he was captured in Benin Republic, he was detained at the police force headquarters in Abuja until April 2, 2023, when he was transferred to Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.
Emeh was imprisoned for exposing top police officials’ extortion, torture, extrajudicial murders, and organ harvesting in the state, which is notorious for extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.
It was stated that top police officials in Zone 13 and Anambra State Command were involved in extortion, extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance, and organ harvesting of inmates.
After the horrifying disclosure, Nigerian police officials ordered a full-scale investigation into the charges, but instead of arresting the accused police personnel, they proclaimed Emeh Nnamdi, who works with the accused police squad, wanted for several offences.
A police source told SaharaReporters that Emeh also accused the Anambra Commissioner of Police.
According to the source, “he cited three automobiles that the CP is now operating that were confiscated from individuals that were later killed in police custody.”
According to the source, “He (Emeh) had earlier described to his interrogators in Abuja how CSP Patrick Agbazue told him to transfer the money to his account from a suspect account and withdraw the money in cash, which was given over to him after exchanging it for dollars.” So they’re not even investigating the deaths and organ harvesting, just hunting for proof to nail him.”
