A senior official announced Monday that a convoy of buses would evacuate about 3,000 Nigerians, primarily students, from Sudan to Egypt this week.
As combat between two competing generals continues for a second week, foreign nations are hurrying to evacuate their citizens from Sudan.
Western special forces and military planes have evacuated diplomatic employees and other people. Others escaped Khartoum by road.
Onimode Bandele, NEMA’s special responsibilities director, told Channels TV that 2,650 to 2,800 people, including embassy employee families, will be moved.
“Nobody’s been evacuated,” he added. “Buses will start moving tomorrow morning.”
Authorities estimate 5,000 Nigerians may seek evacuation.
UN agencies report 427 deaths and 3,700 injuries since the conflict began.
They reported Sudanese citizens fleeing violence to Chad, Egypt, and South Sudan.
