Joyce Ijeoma, a masseuse from Nigeria, is striving to break the record for the longest massage on several people.

The 72-hour massage marathon effort is still going on in Lagos State, Nigeria’s Ikate, Lekki neighbourhood.

Ijeoma’s record will be the first, but the longest full-body massage, which took 25 hours and 4 minutes, comes close.

Alastair Galpin, a South African known as the second person to break a Guinness World Record in the 2000s (2000–2009), accomplished this feat in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, in November 2015.

Galpin gave Nila Adha a 15-minute break every eight hours while giving her a full-body massage from November 29 at 12:14 p.m. to November 30 at 1:18 p.m.

A 72-hour marathon of massages
As a video of the young masseuse’s statement emerged on Sunday, it quickly went viral. Her plans to tackle the massage-a-thon challenge for 72 hours were made known in the viral video. If her estimates are correct, the event started on July 1 on a Saturday and will finish on July 8.

The Lagos-based woman said she massaged several people for almost 18 hours in preparation for her world record-breaking accomplishment.

Joyce Ijeoma, a Nigerian masseuse, is striving to break the record for the longest massage on several people.
She posted the following on her Instagram page: “A special invite to you all as I aim to create a new record for the longest massage on various people.

“Will you kindly step up for me? We would appreciate your help and personal presence. Bring your loved ones, friends, and even adversaries with you.

Ijeoma will emulate renowned chef Hilda Baci of Nigeria, who just claimed the record for the longest cooking marathon if she is successful in her endeavour.

The teenage masseuse had been giving massages for 43 hours.

Impact of Hilda Baci
For 93 hours and 11 minutes, Hilda Baci, age 26, was recognised as the Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon on June 13.

The world record organisation announced the accomplishment on their official Twitter page and named the Akwa Ibom chef the current cook-a-thon champion.

According to GWR, Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, officially broke the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), finishing in 93 hours and 11 minutes. This was determined after a careful examination of all the evidence.

Yet, even before the GWR confirmed her, Hilda Baci’s accomplishment encouraged several young Nigerians to attempt record-breaking streaks around the country.

Additional Nigerian efforts at GWR
To surpass Hilda Baci’s record of 100 hours, a chef from Ekiti State named Damilola Adeparusi, also known as Chef Dammy, completed her 120-hour cook-a-tho on June 14.

Although some Nigerians, including celebrities, praised her for having the guts to attempt to break a Guinness World Record, others criticised her actions, calling them provocative and inappropriate at the time.

Famous actor and comedian Bayegun Oluwatoyin, often known as Woli Arole, revealed his intended attempt at a world record on June 11.

The 33-year-old comedian said through his social media profile that he intends to establish a new Guinness World Record for the “longest prayer session,” which would last 5000 hours.

Woli Arole and digital artist Oyinlola announced their attempts at the GWR on the same day through Twitter posts. In October 2023, she said, she will try to beat the record for the longest painting marathon.
