President Bola Tinubu met with the People’s Democratic Party (PDPG-5 ) ‘s governors at the Presidential Villa yesterday. The PDP-aligned G-5 governors demanded power move to the south before the 2023 presidential election.
The G-5 included former governors of Enugu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu; Benue, Samuel Ortom; Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; and Rivers, Nyesom Wike, their leader and spokesperson. Four of the G-5 governors had completed their two-term terms, leaving only Makinde, who was re-elected in March.
The governors, as they were then, worked against their party’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who lost to incumbent President Bola Tinubu, a south-westerner, who ran on the ruling All Progressives Congress platform (APC).
The immediate previous Rivers governor had twice met the President recently with the Oyo State Governor and the ex-Delta State governor, James Ibori. After the meeting, the Oyo State Governor observed, “Well, nation-building is a very difficult process.
Are you on track? To keep them informed, we must keep meeting the President. Last evening, the G-5 (the Integrity Group) came to tell the President what we stood for: fairness, justice, and equity.”
“We are headed towards Mr President, you know, coming with us on the route for fairness, justice, and equity in Nigeria,” he stated. Makinde refused to say whether the group will join the APC.
