On Thursday, the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal reserved judgement on the petition challenging the 2023 governorship election.

David Ombugadu, the People’s Democratic Party governorship candidate, is challenging Governor Abdullahi Sule’s election victory.

The tribunal scheduled the adoption of all parties’ written addresses for September 14, 2023.

Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, Chairman of the three-person Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, reserved his judgement after counsel for the petitioner and the first, second, and third respondents adopted their final written addresses on Thursday.

He assured the parties that the tribunal would notify them of the judgement day through their counsel.

Before the tribunal, petitioner lead counsel Kanu Agabi (SAN) said he had adopted all the arguments in his written addresses.

The petitioner’s attorney urged the tribunal to annul the Nasarawa state governorship election for violating the Electoral Act and declare the PDP candidate winner.

Agabi added that the IREV postal votes did not affect the final result.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that the PDP candidate had the most votes based on IREV portal records and BVAS machine data from various polling units in the state.

Attorneys for the Independent National Electoral Commission, APC, and Governor Sule, Isiaka Dikko (SAN), Hassan Liman (SAN), and Wole Olanikpekun (SAN), urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition for lack of merit.
