LAGOS- NACCIMA welcomed President Bola Tinubu on his election as Economic Community of West African States chairman (ECOWAS).
As Tinubu became Chairman during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional group in Guinea Bissau, NACCIMA President Dele Oye announced this in Lagos on Sunday.
Oye said the appointment came as ECOWAS member nations prepared to join the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy, was anticipated to play a major role in the region and continent.
Nonetheless, the NACCIMA president stressed the need to resolve intra-West African trade issues.
He emphasized that burdensome processes, expensive transportation costs, and corruption hindered regional trade.
Oye said these concerns have hampered regional commerce and West African economic progress.
Nigeria is now more anticipated than ever by its African counterparts.
“We know your qualifications as a seasoned politician and savvy administrator with an impressive governance and leadership record.
We’re sure you’ll solve the region’s problems.
“We are hopeful that you will be able to handle these difficulties head-on and develop measures that would enhance ease of doing business inside the region,” he added.
He pledged to assist the Nigerian president in boosting West African trade, investment, and economic development. (NAN)
