Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, says he feels that Labor remains the backbone of production as the country observes Workers Day.

Following attending the May Day celebration at Eagle Square in Abuja, Obi made his claim in a post on his verified Twitter account on Monday.

The former governor of Anambra State said that he used the occasion to implore all industrious Nigerians to continue their commitment to creating a better and more modern nation.

According to Obi, the nation must consider the well-being of its workforce before switching from consumption to production.

He said, “Today, I visited the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Solidarity Rally in Abuja. Labour continues to be the foundation of production.

“We cannot discuss the transition from consumption to production without considering the welfare and wellbeing of an essential component of that revolution—human labour.

“I appreciate the invitation from the leadership of the Nigerian Labor Movement (NLC and TUC) and applaud them for choosing the timely and pertinent theme for this year’s Workers Day—”Workers Rights and Socio-Economic Justice”—for modern-day Nigeria.

“I enjoin them and every industrious Nigerian to continue firm in the process of constructing a better and New Nigeria where there will be more employment, high productivity, security of lives and properties, and everything that would make Nigerians proud of their nation,” the president of the country said.
